IRC Appendix BE: Radon Control Methods

Appendix BE is the radon control methods appendix in the 2024 International Residential Code. Like every edition before it, inclusion is not automatic: a jurisdiction has to adopt the appendix, or determine the project sits in a designated radon Zone 1, before its provisions apply to a permit.

The appendix number has changed across code cycles even where the underlying requirements carried forward largely unchanged: it was Appendix F through the 2018 IRC, renumbered Appendix AF in the 2021 IRC, and is Appendix BE in the 2024 IRC. A jurisdiction that references “Appendix F” or “Appendix AF” in its own adopted code is not citing a different requirement, only an earlier edition's number for it, and reading the wrong edition's number as the wrong requirement is a real way to draw the wrong permit set.
